As players move their pieces, they want to capture their opponent's pieces by jumping over them diagonally on the board. Pieces cannot be moved on to the white squares, and a piece may not move backwards. Then, players take alternating turns moving pieces forward diagonally on the dark squares. Each row should have 4 pieces, and each piece should be placed on a dark square. To play, first each player sets up their 12 pieces in the 3 rows at the bottom of their side. The goal of the game is to capture each of your opponents pieces, called “men,” or to make it impossible for them to move a piece.
